If I've got a Plexwriter 16/10/40A with firmware 1.00, should I download the newest firmware?

Are there any advantages or disadvantages?

I'd really appreciate some help.

Thanks,

You can get the latest firmware from here. Plextor provides a description of the changes in the firmware. If you feel that any of them apply to you, then you should consider flashing.

I'm sorry, I really should have made myself a bit more clear. I've already downloaded it, but I wanted to know if it makes it harder to copy CD's or anything like that. I know they list the advantages, but might the new firmware make anything harder.

As far as I know, copying SD2 does not work with the Plextor 16/10/40 firmwares; SD2 copying has been disabled in Plextor drives since rev 1.01 of the 12/10/32A drive.

I disagree about problems reading cheap media.

I've read that Acer and Phillips cdrw's are the best for Safedisc2.

If you upgrade your firmware, make sure you have a copy of the old firmware! If you intend to copy games with SD2 protection it won't work with the latest firmware. I really liked plextor, but a stunt like that to control us is making me look elsewhere.

I dont think any of the plextor 16/10/40's can do SD2. Gamequoter teac drives can also do SD2 I heard.
