If it rains, should I go ride my bike in it?

I just heard some thunder. If it starts to rain, I think I might go for a ride.
That's just a passing thought, though. The topic of discussion is: how do you react to rain? Do you 'hate' it, and run as fast as you can from the car to the store? Do you like it, and walk at a normal pace?
I myself kinda like rain. I just don't understand people who are somehow deathly afraid of getting wet. ;)

Yup! I enjoy the rain. So does the wife. We always laugh at people who are running to and fro trying not to get wet, while we walk normally. :D

Depends on my clothes.

If I am wearing something that I don't want to get soaked, or if I just plain and simply want to be dry, then I don't like the rain.

I like it - I'm not made of sugar! I especially like mountain biking in the rain and getting muddy. Lightning is bad juju, though.

I love the rain. I love it when you're just strolling along and down comes a downpour.

I like getting muddy on the bike, too. Just make sure you go easy on the trails when tehy're wet. (It's actually better to stay off them when possible to prevent erosion.)

Ok, lecture over.;)

Agreed - I asked for this. But in all fairness (to me!), trails that are primarily dirt (as opposed to clay-based soil) are not too sensitive to erosion when wet. Clay-based mud is much more erosion-sensitive (and not much fun either). I primarily use a Corratec Diamant Grip semi-slick rear tire (with a Specialized Team Control front), and do not normally ride when the soil is too loose to keep traction with it.

Again, I agree wholeheartedly and I am in no way offended by the lecture!

I remember walking from my dorm to Tucker Building (20 minute walk) when a sudden downpour hit, and I mean downpour. I was soaked through and through by the time I got to Tucker. That day, I did NOT like rain, lol.

Nothing beats flying through the rain with a bike, road bike preferred. It's time like those that let you put things into perspective and get away from the usual things in life. But just make sure to dry it off afterwards -- nothing sucks more than rust. :(

If you mean riding on the street? Then no, thats boring. Riding on trails when its all muddy and there are big ass puddles is fun. Depends how hard its raining tho, going fast in rain sucks (don't have clear lenses for my silder bazookas).

Agreed! This is one reason I prefer riding titanium bikes.

Nice rides! (Gotta love the sidis, too.) I leave the dirt on my Homegrown to protect the paint. ;)

Is that a Zoke Z2 on the Serotta? I just got a Z2 Atom 80 and it's awesome. Made it a whole new bike. :)

Thanks! The Serotta is just surreally great. I bought both frames brand-new, secondhand at different times. The Serotta has a first-generation Bomber Z2 with firm springs. I had the fork overhauled with new seals and bushings last year (I can change the oil myself but you need special shop tools to seat the seals without damaging them) and it is better than new. That fork is still amazing after four years, and still offers a ride that is as good as anything on the market today (though it certainly weighs down the bike a bit). The Zokes forks are just MUCH beefier and higher-quality than anything else on the market IMO.

Happy trails!
