If I were to write some game reviews...

I have a hankering to design another simple website and learn a bit about implementing RSS feeds, since I've never done it before. But as usual, I need a reason to actually put the time into doing it. I seem incapable of just doing something for the hell of it. 🙂

So, I was thinking about designing a site around videogames, in particular, reviews. Now, this is not intended to be a daily destination for people, just simply a project for me to enjoy, and a place to house some text for me to point people to. Since this is really the only gaming forum I post in, I'd be sending you guys to it. BUT, only if people seem interested in reading what I have to write.

So, would you guys actually be interested in what I have to say? I figure if some others wanted to, you could feel free to post some reviews as well (or atleast, give me the text so I can put it on the page). This wouldn't be anything fancy with php and stuff, no logins or anything like Modeps's Sochl page, just simple.

If so, I need a name for it. Any ideas?

Of course, this is a feature coming to my website and if desired I could move it up in priority, but I'd read your crap anyway if you linked me to it. 🙂

LOL 😀

Thanks a lot. 🙂 I'm still deciding if I want to work on this or not. Here lately I've really wanted to write some game reviews, and I figured it's be a great way to learn RSS feeds in the process. Not that I need to learn them for anything, I just figured it'd be interesting.

Modeps, are you planning on letting anybody and everybody write reviews, or were you going to just take a few volunteers to write and that's it?

Considering the plan I've got for a completely social community, I was planning on letting whoever wanted to write reviews, then users would be able to vote them up or down (Digg style, but not time based) in how they actually appear listed out. The more people like your review, the higher it will appear in the list. Top 5 will appear on the game page itself. If you goto the game pages now, you'll see a spot to the right of Blog entries, thats where they'll go. (ie: http://sochl.com/game/3684 )

Since the emergence of gamerankings and metacritic, I'm not a big review-reader/watcher unless it's a game I'm really on the fence about. The exception to that is Yahtzee, who has a gimmick I find ridiculously entertaining even if I don't take his opinion into serious consideration when making buying decisions.

I know this makes me a terrible person, but I have to admit, regardless of the original intent, I roll my eyes a bit when I see someone felt self-important enough to post a 1000 word review as an OP here on the forums. But it sounds like what you're talking about is nothing like that so I'm all for it and will gladly give your writing a shot.
