If I were to leave to Korea for a year, what should I do with my car?

with my baby: mazda6 2003, 7 months old, 13,000 miles.

here are my options:
1. just leave it in my house for one full year... with no one else driving it
2. let my dad drive it... but I really don't want him to rack up the mileage/use up my car... he smokes for once..

let your dad drive it. unless you wanna do the necessary stuff to store your car for ayear (unless you can have somebody drive it once every few weeks)

buying a new car and then letting it sit and depreciate is a bad idea

It's really your call, however, would your dad be reasonable about not smoking in the car? That would be the biggest concern to me although I don't know how many miles your dad puts on a car in a year.

Leave it at home. Take your name off your insurance. Why would you want to go to Hangul when you have your pretty girlfriend at home?

I would say sell it unless it holds some kind of sentimental value or you riced it up or something...

your korean made semi-sense. Hangul refers to the Korean language, not the country itself. :)

put it on jacks so its not sitting on the tires... keep the battery charged... add a fuel stabilizer... what are you going to do over there for a year anyway?

Leave it In you house?

Storage: Change oil & filter. Add stabilizer to the gas & fill the tank. Remove battery,
clean it & store in the bottom of the refigerator. Put the car up on blocks so the tires
are off the ground. Cover the car with a breathable cover in the garage.

Yeah DEFINITELY crazy night in Seoul. Some of my friends tell me that there are A LOT of Koreans from the US who go over there to teach English and there are so many that they all hang out and do lots of "forbidden" things. Naughty things. Scandalous things. Clandestine things. "Its Naughty Time Baby"

Worst idea in this thread.

You will maybe get about 70% of the value of the car IF that.

What are you talking about? $17,275 x .7 = $12,092. A depreciation of 30% in 7 months? Yea right. If you can find me a 7 month old 2003 Mazda 6 for $12,000 I'll change my name to KoingsBITCH. :p

Is the car being leased?

Anyways, I've left my car at home for periods of time, and my dad'd only drive it if his own car was giving him problems. He's a good driver, but in the event of an accident and assuming no injuries occur during the accident, it would provide me the opportunity to get a cooler car via full-coverage insurance. Plus...he's my dad...my family is such that my stuff is his stuff, and his stuff is my stuff.

So yeah, I'd let my dad drive it, but in your case, I'd tell him to enjoy the ride, but to not smoke in the car.

Paul
-loves his dad. And I think my car is 10x cooler than your car.

You need someone to take it out on a little run for like 10-20 minutes every week or so.

Just ask your dad to do it and ask him nicely not to smoke in it.
