If I was summoned for Jury Duty 6 months ago, I shouldn't summoned again right?

I was summoned 6 months ago but then was excused. Today they sent me another summons. I shouldn't have to go right?

Did you get anything saying you went six months ago? If so, then you'll just have to fax a copy of it over to them to prove you've done your time.

One-day/one-trial: California courts have adopted the one-day or one-trial system. One day or one trial means that prospective jurors have to come to the court only once. If you are not assigned to a courtroom for jury selection on the first day, then your term of service is complete. If you serve on a jury, you will not be required to report for jury service for at least another 12 months.

http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/jury/glossary.htm

You can probably find out how to respond in that link too.

Depends.

Helpful, huh? Different locales have different rules so there is no general answer.

Why shouldnt you have to go? Unless im misunderstanding you when you say excused. Did you actually go to it and get excused, or did you just tell them you couldnt go because of some BS reason.

If it was the former, then I suppose you shouldnt have to go again so soon..

Maybe they found you you aren't really prejudiced toward every race (including your own) like you claimed you are, so they're making you serve this time. ;)

Clarify excused. Did you show up and not get selected or did you come up with an excuse not to show up (due to school). If it's the latter, then you're stuck and have to show up unless you can come up with yet another excuse.

It depends on each municipalities rules and regulations.

In general I'd say, Yes, you should have to go until you once again provide proof of why you should be excused from jury duty.
Just because you bullshitted your way out of jury duty once doesn't mean they are going to stop pulling your name from the list.

Very easy to say when you have a job that pays you to go, but when your a college student working full time to pay the bills, not getting payed for a few days work can hurt a lot.

I'm not sure where you live, but usually you get paid for jury duty.
It's not much, but it's still something. Over here it's about $50/day, that's basically minimum wage.

What college student has a good job? Sort of an oxymoron.

If you're a student they'll let you reschedule to the summer.

And making wild claims to the judge trying to get out of it just humiliates you and gets you sent back to the jury pool, I've seen it happen and it's hilarious, really. ;)

It was like $15 dollars a day or something in Virginia. And yes, I worked my way though college like many of my classmates and did not live at home.

Funny you should ask. I'm doing jury duty right now. Over here, "excused" just means they postponed it for another few months. Only if you serve or you attempted to serve (but weren't called) do you get exempt for a few years.

50? here in santa clara county, they pay 20 bucks a day plus mileage. Its bogus really. when I was stuck with jury duty I joking brought up during the break that we were being paid less than minimum wage, the court clerk just smiled.

I'm in California. When I say excused, I mean I was summoned 6 months ago, checked my status the night before I was supposed to go, and it said "my prescence was not required".

If you didn't actually serve on a jury, I don't think you are going to get a 12-month immunity.

is that right? so they can keep summoning you if you never actually served on the jury?

unless other counties in california, here in santa clara, once you are actually called to the court house, you get your 12 month immunity letter.

doesn't matter whether you actually sit on a jury or not.

You didn't even have to go to the courthouse, so they can probably summon you again...

Call the clerk in the morning.
