What's the nearest airport?

Can I find car rental at the airport? If not, where?

Where to find lodging?

What else to check out at Monument Valley?

Thanks! I'm planning a little 3 day trip for myself.

Yup, unless you want to go via municipal airport. It's not gonna take you three days to drive. ;):p

You could fly into Albuquerque or Denver and then take a commuter plane over to Durango, Colorado. That would get you somewhat closer.

You could probably take puddle-jumpers into most of the bigger towns in the area, but from Flagstaff, according to Mapquest, it's :
Total Est. Time: 4 hours, 23 minutes Total Est. Distance: 186.79 miles
not a terrible drive...

Gouldings is the usual place most people stay in the area. As far as transportation, there are numerous commuter scheduled services to 'nearby' towns but they will be expensive especially considering you also need to rent a car (not cheap in small towns).

If I remember correctly, most of it is on Navajo land. I don't think you can just go out there and check things out for a couple days.

Sure you can... if you don't mind sleeping in your car and you don't bring any alcohol. Wouldn't recommend sleeping out in a tent, though.

According to some sites the nearest commuter airport is Four Corners Regional Airport in Farmington, NM which is served by American West Express from Phoenix, Mesa Airlines from Albuquerque, and Great Lakes Airlines from Denver. It's a two and half hour drive to Monument Valley. The airport has Avis, Budget, Enterprise, and Hertz rental car agencies.

Looks like Gouldings Lodge is the only place right at the entrance to Monument Valley, it's a mile from it. They also have a link to the Best Western Wetherill Inn 25 miles south of Monument Valley. That's in Kayenta, AZ which also has some other hotels as well like Hampton Inn, etc.

That's the best I can do.

Monument Valley has some of the most AMAZING foods! I've been there once a few years back, and i absolutely miss it. I might decide to go take a trip there this winter break!
