If I want to overclock.....

Would it be better to get 1 stick of 512mb or 2 sticks of 256mb? Some people say having more than 1 sticks gives you the chance that timings might hinder your overclocking chances, then some people say 1 stick of 512mb would cause problems as well. Anyone?

i would say 1 stick of 512......the more dimms you have filled, the more likely it is to experience problems (depending on your motherboard of course)

I would also suggest 1` stick of 512mb, if that is compatibale with your mobo. You should check the manual first before buying any ram to make sure it compatible.

I would say 1 stick of 512 as well cause you will have more slots free and less chance for incompatibilities with other sticks of ram, as long as your board can take a 512Meg stick.

What are you gonna overclock?? Not many boards will allow you to adjust the speed of the RAM as it runs synchronously with the FSB. That is if you're overclockign via FSB. If you're doing so, get two sticks of high quality RAM as you need it.

If you're overclocking via multiplier, go ahead and buy a stick of 512. 🙂

This is only an issue if the 2 sticks of 256MB would be of a different manufacturer. If the two sticks have the same chip markings, they should 'hypothetically' have the same overclocking potential. Just get the cheapest of the two options. Of course, there is also the upgrading route that might favour getting one stick of 512MB instead.

P4 1.6A GHz with Gigabyte 8SRX. It has good overclocking potential, a lot of options with FSB and voltage. I did decide to go with the stick of 512mb. When I save some more money, I was 1 GB of memory.... =)

Just hope this will overclock well....
