If I use the 7 or 5 volt mod, will my LEDs not run as bright?

Hey guys,

I have 3 120mm yate loons and 3 120mm antec tricools in my Antec 900 case. I can hear a bit of rushing air noise and thought I might try the 7 volt molex mod.

Since the Antec Tricools have LEDs, will the LEDs not run as bright if I use the 7volt molex? Or is only the fan speed affected and not the brightness of the LEDs?
I was also wondering if the 7 volt would mess up the "high med low" switches on the Tricool fan, or just make each slightly quieter.
Since many people apparantly run their Yate Loons at 7v, what does it sound like at that level?

TIA,
Darren

Antec Tri Cools...baaaaad. Throw awaaaayyyy. Yate Loons...goooood. Keeeeep. I believe us3rnotfound has a perfect solution for this.

Yep, those tri cools have 3 speeds, soft (no cfm), loud, and loud. Plus, they're brighter than a high energy photon emission. Go with the de-riced, less expensive, more efficient Yate Loons.

Wow, do you two work together or something? Within 3 minutes of Rally's post too...🙂

I actually bought a few extra black yates in case I wanted to cut the lights, but I think the riced look is okay for now. I think the Tri-cools are almost silent at low from 1-2 feet away. Why do you say that they don't move any air?

LOL, I notify him of any Antec 900 going-ons in these here forums...

The Tri-Cools don't blow much air when set at low. Even though they're rated to be 1200RPM at low, they feel like they're blowing the equivalent of an 800RPM. This is why you get a Yate Loon low speed to run in between the low and medium. YL low speeds run at 1350RPM.

After putting some paper strips and doing a hand test on the Antec, I can see how they don't move much air at all on low. They sound like a jet taking off on medium, and both antecs on high is just crazy

I stuck a straw in the two Antec intakes on low and figured out that's where most of my noise was comming from. But arn't Antec Tri-cools at low as quiet as Yate loons? So if I swtiched the intakes out for Yates, i would still get the same noise as antecs but more cfm?

Looking at how the intake fans are inside the drive cage looks like switching them would be a pain. Has usernotfound or anyone else tried switching out the fans?

Bah! I'm running Antec Tri-Cools right now, and they work fine!

If you think they don't push enough air and/or are noisy, it's probably 'cause you got 'em bolted to drill-hole grills on some cheap ass case! 😛

These things gotta be over a year old, and they don't make a peep!

Actually, I wish they would start making noise & die! I wanna replace them with A.C.Ryan Blackfire 4's! 😀

BTW, for what it's worth, Tri-Cool LEDs do get dimmer as they age, just like Grandma, so give 'em time...

Um... This part is true!

Don't run them on low, unless you just wanna pimp out your case with LEDs... 😉
