If I use the 38cfm delta, it would have to connect to the power supply. So my question is....

How do I tell the temp of the cpu if the fan is not connected to the mobo?

Well the temp readout isn't done on the power connection only the RPM readout is. The temps comes from the socket thermistor either under the socket, behind the socket, etc Since it varies from differing boards.

You won't. Sorry, but that's it. You won't have any problem determining if the fan is spinning though. You'll hear it from the front door.

i read in another post here that you could split the connect and send 1 pin to the mobo and the other to a 3 to 4 pin adapter. Sorry i cant tell you more
