If I upgrade my Win98 to XP and don't like XP, can i "downgrade" back to Win98 with no problem?

I just got Windows XP (Full Version - Professional) but am weary to install it due to the mixed reviews of compatibility and all. Somewhere down the line, after they release at least one service pack, I'll no doubt format my HD and give WinXP a fresh, full install... But for now, though I'm weary, I still want to try it to see for myself if it's good for me.

So if I use the Full Version CD as an upgrade from Win98SE, and XP causes problems and I want to go BACK to Win98SE, is that possible? Can I "uninstall" XP for it to go back to 98? Or can I install 98 again from my old 98 CD?

And if I can do any of these, will I have problems caused by the upgrading and downgrading of files and programs drivers and games?

Any help or advice would be great. Thanks in advance!

What you can do is install it in addition to w98. Just install it to a different directory and dont partition/format any of your drive on install. Then if you like it do a fresh install at a later date.

Or you could ghost your system and burn them on to Cds. then wipe it and install xp. If you dont like it just put your ghost image back on.

Hmm... actually had a reply on another forum that said I should be able to downgrade by going to Add/Remove programs.... Now I don't know who to believe. :)

Thanks for the replies guys.

Any other advice, perhaps from someone in the same boat as me who has tried this?

Thats BS...what you should have done if applicable was to install XP to a seperate partition so you could Dual Boot.
