Bought the card back in November 2009, and it's starting to die- green lines and dots all over the left side of the screen. Since this card has been out of production for a while, what is the manufacturer (Sapphire) likely to give me as a replacement?

I would ask for a 6870.

I would consider a 6870 a downgrade. Its faster stock but a reference 5850 can overclock about 30%. A 6870 can overclock about 10-12%?

Back to the OP's question you will probably get a refurb 5850 or a 5850 extreme or maybe a check?

That's what their website says, but Newegg told me yesterday to contact Sapphire anyway because Newegg's warranty is only 30 days.

You don't even need to go through Sapphire. You can contact Athlon Micro directly if you want. RMA@althonmicro.com That's the email Sapphire will probably give you anyway after you register and fill out a support ticket. Worked for me when I rma'ed my 5870 in April.

You will get a 5850 new or a 5850 refurb. You won't get a 6xxx series card because there are literally tons of 5xxx series cards out there and in instock.

Newegg has been sold out of the 5850 and 5870 cards for awhile now. Although the manufacturer might sill have some.
