If i put my hard drive & cd drive vertically or flipped, will it *die* sooner ?

I'm curios if the orientation of a hard drive affects it's lifespan ? I'm currently have a drive oriented vertically (because my tower case is laying on it's side), and several cd/dvd drives in same position. Does it reduces the life span ? what if it turned upside down (i.e, the pcb facing upward) ? does anyone has experience ?

thanx

Ive seen drives oriented in all sort of directions by major oems, so I doubt it makes much of a difference if at all. Cd-rom drives should also be fine oriented vertically, since they have those little lips in the corners to hold the cd up anyways(meaning they were also built to be used this way).

Edit: if a physics major understands this better please do tell

Only rule of thumb I've heard is that whatever orientation you use it in, make sure that is the same orientation you formatted it in.

Don't think I'd mount one upside down, either.
