If I love BF1942, might I like Star Wars Battlefront?

I've been seeing commercials for Star Wars Battlefront, and eventually got interested enough to check out the web site. From what it looks like, it's basically Battlefield 1942, but in the Star Wars universe.

I'm a big fan of BF1942; it's about the only game I play. I'm also a fan of Star Wars. So to me this game looks like a winner. But being that there's no playable demo, I can't get a feel for it. And some people have suggested that the quality is not up to par, and you're better off playing the Galactic Conquest mod in BF1942.

So for anyone who really liked BF1942 and has played Battlefront, is it any good? Or will I just be disappointed and go back to 1942, like I did after getting BV Vietnam?
 
Battlefront is unplayable over the Internet. With 5Mbit download and 500kbit upload (measured :roll😉 and an Athlon64 and 6800GT I was getting about 1 fps to the best server.

So, untill/unless they patch it for that, it's a waste of money for anything but the single player.
 
Cant say that I have that problem.

I sometimes host a small server for my friends and I to play on. 1.5Mbit down, 300kbit up (measured) cable connection and I can get 3-4 people on no problem.
 
I have battlefront for the xbox....the campaign is easy, but extremely fun! On xbox live, its more of a challenge and is so much fun to play.

He already knows about the GC mod.

I'm also a big BF42 fan. I only played the GC mod when the first version came out a long time ago. At the time, I wasn't too impressed, but I'm assuming it's gotten better since then. It would all depend on whether there are a decent number of servers running that mod. It seems to me like many of the BF mods (with a few exceptions) never gained a large fan base.

The only SW Battlefront I've played was on the xbox demo that came with the SW trilogy DVD set. It was pretty fun on xbox, but it didn't really make me want to buy it.

Do you play the Desert Combat mod for BF?
If not, you need to try it. IMO, BF1942 with DC is much more fun than BF Vietnam.

I'll have another look today and see if things are better.

Meanwhile, has anyone played Battlefront on PC and enjoyed it?

I bought it and have not played it or opened yet, probably will give it to my cousin for his 13th birthday. I paid $3 for it brand new from a local salvage store. My friends told me after i got it that it was a waiste of hard drive space and a rip off at $3 (the PC version is the one they reffered to, but i hear the Xbox version is good, it was just a horrible port going to PC to xbox, according to them).

i played battlefront on PC but haven't played Galatic Conquest mod. I found Battlefront to be 6/10. Its been a while so I don't remember exactly why I did not like it. It was okay, fights became repetitive. The fun part was following Darth Vader and watching him strike down the rebels one by one. The AI was kinda dumb.
