If I have the software, where can I get a drive for this price?

I already have the best software I need to play DVDs and I am not really interested in a DVD burner with the current generation of drives. So, what and where can I get the best quality DVD ROM drive for the money ordered online? I am trying to pick it up before UT 2004 hits the shelves next month. Is there usually sales on DVD ROMs each week or are they rare?

A friend of my claimed that Office Depot had Mad Dog DVD drives for $16 two weeks ago but I couldn't find one when I looked. Is it possible to find a sub $20 drive easily?

To me a DVD drive is a DVD drive. There's nothing special about them. Toshiba, Samsung, Lite On all make decent drives. Just pick up whichever one is cheapest.

Ok, I really just wanted to find one that wouldn't burn up or go bad in like 6 months. Making sure I avoid the low quality brands.

I bought a Sony DVD drive for $30 a few weeks ago... for the cheapest deals, you're best off looking at Price Watch or E-Bay.

if you buy a dvd rom for $15 and it goes bad after a few months, at least you're only out $15 :) if you're looking for long-term use, though, I'd recomend putting down the, uh, big money and buying something in the $30-$50 range.

Yes, the Pioneer slot-load drives are still available (newegg or mwave usually has 'em in stock) and one company on the east coast (Atech I think) is supposed to have some of the AOpen version, which I think is the better version.

DVD-ROM is a DVD-ROM if you just want to do the odd movie watch, etc...
but my favorite are the Pioneer slot loads.... I really love my 106S, but I am not much a fan of the newer 120S
if you can, the 106S is awesome... best DVD-ROM evAr :)
