If I had only known. AGP prices off the hook.

Hindsight is definitely 20/20. If I had know the magnitude of AGP price gouging all over the net, I would have taken a huge bank loan and bought up thousands of AGP high end graphics cards. Resold them on Ebay. Some of these cards are going for more than their original MSRP before price reductions. Insane. Had to vent.

It's called cornering the market to increase sales. ATI and Nvidia don't want you to just buy their video cards. They sell motherboards too. (in ati and Nforce flavors) What better way to get people to buy both then to force a new video card socket down our throats and abandon the old one? Now you need their card and MOBO. = twice the sales.

Now, AMD and ATI are coming together. What do you want to bet this issue is going to be 3 fold pretty quick? :p

This practice makes the industry go round, and it's not going anywhere. It would appear you will still have plenty of opportunities to exploit others in the future.

Good price, and good that you bought it when you did.
As for the PS3's, not sure how long it will take to get to market. I heard the Cell processors are having issues. But then again, I haven't kept up on it. Consoles really do not interest me as it interests others.

That has nothing to do with it. There are legacy users, who do not want to upgrade their whole PC, for just a video card. NV and ATi do not make the AGP cards anymore, so the resellers are selling them for more than they're "worth", because people will pay for them. The same thing will happen in a several years when PCIe makes way for the newer socket, whatever that is.

It happens with almost any change of "socket". P3's were much more than P4's after about a year or so. Because people still wanted them, and didnt want to upgrade everything to get a newer CPU. And again, resellers could charge more for them, because people would pay for it.

Out of curiosity, what card were you looking for and what was the price. Ebay seemed high, but not totally out of line.

If they were higher, I would probably upgrade early and sell my 800xtpe
