Total, with shipping is $551.99. Anyone have any input? Is this the best I can do for around $600? I only need MB, Ram, CPU. I will buy a WD HD locally, and I hope to buy a nice new graphics card some time 2nd quarter next year. I know that this board excludes the new graphics options... but for the price...

AMD 3000+ Winchester - $160
MSI K8N Neo2 - 140
same ram is okay, - 170

that is 470

add a good CPU cooler(40~) and that will overclock like a mofo, for cheaper...

I would get:

AMD 3000+ Winchester
MSI K8N Neo2
Corsair Value RAM (if you are overclocking consider something else)

The stock cooling on the 3000+ 939 is fine, AT got to 2.6 ghz on it I believe.

I've heard a lot of bad things about the MSI board... I'd stear clear of it and go for the ABIT/ASUS A8V. I myself went for the ASUS and couldn't be happier :D

The ASUS and the MSI seem to be fan favorites. Remember that the reason you see a lot of crap about the MSI being bad is because it has a lot of quirks that roadblock many novices; and it's a popular board, so it has considerably more user feedback. Stay away from the ABIT. I agree the ASUS A8V Rev2 is a solid board.

Why don't you switch to 939, and get a 3200+ or a 3000+? The pricing is actually lower, and 939 is a more future-proof (they stopped making 754s).

I was considering the new 939's but I don't know enough about them =( I also didn't know of a good board I could count on. I'm not a big brand follower, but I do know that I have had some bad motherboards over the years and the only ones I have been happy with consistently are ASUS.

Are 939 boards dual channel? Because I would like to get another GB of RAM next quarter, and not have to worry about compatibility.

Also I wanted to be more specific about my needs. I program a lot, I would like to play some games but I don't OC and I never run anything higher than 1064x728 (or whatever is close to those number, I tend to mess them up).

Also I tend to skip a generation in upgrades. I don't plan on upgrading for 2 years, so I don't know that it will matter about outdated 754's.
