If I go amd64, is dual ddr setup a must?

trend

Senior member
I just bought an amd64 3200 clawhammer (1mb cache ) cpu rig. The mobo is not dual ddr. Right now I a mrunning a 5400rpm hd, and 256 mb of ram. I am thinking the next big upgrade is going to be to a 10k or 15k hd (raptor or scsi).. but when I do that upgrade, i was thinking about doing dual ddr.

My friend said if you go amd64 you have to go dual ddr (I have a p4 HT, and didn't see a huge difference), so what do you'll think?

Big diference or not?

I said that dual channel is not really an advantage for the A64. your CPU will be fast enough for a while and with the raptor, it should fly!

The socket 754 run 200MHz faster than the 939 counterpart.. for the same PR. so, clock for clock, your 3200+ is running 2.2 MHz and the 1 meg cache will make it in thesame performance range or better that the 939 3500+ with dual channel.

If I had to choose between both CPU, I would go with yours..

Cool.. I will stay with the single channel ram and prob just install 512 in the rig... Then prob do a scsi 15k 18gig hd or something.

thanks!
