If I get a Audigy X-Gamer and Altec Lancing 251 5.1 Speakers will I still be getting Dolby Digital?

Hi All!

If I get a Audigy X-Gamer Sound Card and Altec Lancing 251 5.1 Speakers will I still be getting Dolby Digital? Or do I have to use the Creative Labs Inspire 5300 5.1 Speakers to get Dolby Digital?

well, you won't get the stream as Dolby, but you will get the 5.1...what will happen is the Audigy will decode the Dolby and send it out to the proper channel. If you use WinDVD or powerDVD

you're still hearing the dolby digital track from the DVD
it's just that with the altec speakers it's decoded and sent through the analog outputs to the correct channel so the center/front/rear/sub all get the proper soundtrack to play

creative's digital speakers do the same job except use a digital connector to the Audigo which will sound exactly the same and maybe even worse if the Altecs are high quality. the difference is digital on one (1 wire) and analog on the others (more than 1 wire)
