If I drove a semi-truck, I'd want to drive this.

CHICAGO ? At what was by far the most jam-packed unveiling of the entire show here so far, Navistar International today took the wraps off its new flagship truck, the LoneStar. This monster is the big-rig equivalent of a Harley-Davidson dresser, with a huge chrome grille and lights galore. But there?s some green poking through that smoke: As part of Navistar?s Advanced Classics line of Class 8 trucks designed with advanced aerodynamics, the LoneStar is projected to be 5 to 15-percent more fuel efficient than traditional trucks.

The sharp look leads to clean driving, which equates to to an annual cost savings of $3,000 to $8,000 per truck. The LoneStar will be offered with Cummins ISX deisels ranging from 435 to 600 hp, or with Caterpillar diesels ranging from 435 to 550 hp. And, since it?s a big rig, you have a choice of 10-, 13-, 15- or 18-speed transmissions. Automotive-style features built into the LoneStar include tandard ABS brakes, roll stability control, traction control, Bluetooth for hands-free phoning, a leather-wrapped steering wheel hanging over dash and gauges with rosewood or titanium trim.

Inside, the LoneStar?s closer to a private jet than an 18-wheeler. You can opt for wood flooring in the sleeper cab, a sofa-bed, swivel chairs, closed ?airline? cabinets for storage, a Monsoon stereo system with 11 speakers and a pull-down bed with a 42-in. mattres. Plus, it comes lined with workspaces for plugging in laptops and a mini fridge. When can we move in?

The LoneStar will be available for order from nearly 900 dealer locations in North America beginning in April, with delivery slated for this fall. ?Jim McCraw

Nice wheels, but isn't a luxurious semi an oxymoron? It's meant to haul things. And from a stereotypical standpoint I don't think truck drivers are all that high class. Granted, they make honest money and love to deck out their rig with cool shit, but this is a little over the top.

Considering that truck drivers spend most of their time in their truck, the ones that can afford it, would love a truck like this. One of my wife's cousin drives a truck and it is real nice on the inside. Not as nice as this one but very roomy (for a truck) and has alot of nice features.

Looks like a really really big '34 Willys.

For the people that think it's extravagance, remember that this is an office+motel room for someone 250 days per year.

I just wonder if it will be all fluff and looks, or if they're actually going to build a quality truck for a change? I-H, AKA Cornbinders, have never been known as quality trucks. Their big appeal to companies was their lower cost as compared to Peterbilt and Kenworth, both of which were known for build quality.

You can dress a pig up in silk and furs, but underneath, it will still be a pig.

You're a dumbass Mr. Lee. Truck drivers come from all type backgrounds. Many make very good money and live as upper middle class citizens. As for their rigs, why wouldn't they want something luxuirious considering it's what they spend up to 3/4 or more of their work week in?

Your assumtion makes you look low class if you ask me. Remember everything you own, touch, use got to you by way of truck and truck driver.

BTW OP, LOL @ the Spaceballs reference ;)

You're a dumbass Mr. Jackson.

Please, my reference to the streotypical mindset wasn't disclaimer enough? There's no manner of disrespect to truck drivers in my post. I'm well aware that the average truck driver gets payed considerably more then and lives considerably better then everyone thinks.

You really think I'm some elitist idiot that's ungrateful for the services hard working people provide? I didn't know a pickle was a cucumber last month. Get off me...

You sure sound like one. I went from being an Optical Engineer to driving a truck because I wanted to. It was a dream I always had and I decided to try it. It was great. But I sure wouldn't own an International! Especially if their quality is the same as their pick ups used to be.
