What would you motorheads/physics people need to know about my car? weight? HP? torque? gearing?

All that and more, and even then it'd be an estimate. It's a complicated thing.

Depends on either your gearing, drag coefficient, or your tires. They can all limit your top speed. If your gearing is limiting, you'll hit redline on your last gear and that would be the limit. If your car is limited by drag, your engine can't provide enough force to overcome wind resistence. If your car is limited by your tires, the tires will probably blow up before you get to your top speed. They make different rated tires for different speeds.

Now if you're driving a geo metro, you might as well just give up.

yeah i have an Apex-i Power FC with LCD commander which is full stand alone fuel controller with total engine management controller. It replaces the factory ECU as a direct drop in. With the factory ECU i was limited to 125mph but after i got the power fc i hit 247km which is about 153mph before i decided to slow down.

Top speed is governed by the following ;

Net horsepower at the wheels
Net torque at the wheels
Horsepower curve
Torque curve
Final drive ratio
Ambient temperature
Road surface
Aerodynamic efficiancy of your vehicle
The tires speed rating
The tires rolling resistance
How much nerve you have

Weight doesn't really factor into it. It does affect how long it will take to get up to speed, however.

A lot of cars don't have one. My old Beretta GTZ didn't and it was just a cheap beater - although very fun.

If you do have a speed limiter, most of them can be shut off using a power programmer.

Roger: ever hear of the "key trick" that works with Dodge Dakotas? Before you nail the limiter, turn and hold the key to the "start" position. The computer will ignore the speed sensor and keep the engine running. I only know of a few people that have had the nads to do 120+ w/ one hand on the wheel. But it goes to show that bypassing speed limiters is possible. (very few aftermarket ECUs raise the limiter at all). A guy found this out after he had a hopped up one with a 97MPH limiter kicking in before the end of the 1/4 mile (caused him to lose some races). I'm not sure HOW he found it though.

thats pretty crazy...althought i was driving one handed and using the other hand to monitor my LCD readout which are displayed real time.

You have to wonder. "Darn, I'm losing AGAIN! I'd better make sure the engine is started..." /turns key

The starter never engages. It won't unless the auto's in park or neutral, or the clutch is pressed in. So as long as you don't shift you're okay.
