If I disable DHCP does that disable the firewall protection in my router?

A router is not firewall anyway, so the answer is no (the firewalling type properties in a router arean effect of NAT). Anyway, if u turn off DHCP and don't have all your TCP/IP info hardcoded on each pc, then you wont get very far.
