if I create JBOD or "pass-through" disk in my controller's BIOS, will it erase all data on that drive?

I have a single Windows drive attached to a SATA controller but it does not boot because I need to configure it as a "JBOD" first. I'm afraid to do this - will it erase my data if I create JBOD array on this disk?
