During this season of giving thanks and spending time with the people/things we hold most dear....let us imagine you were forced (gun pointed to your head, financial crisis, wife, etc.) to get rid of all of your computer paraphenalia BUT one single part.....what would it be and why?

EDIT: Assume all of your data/music/movies/files/etc is safely copied on a hard drive or similar in a safe deposit box somewhere

1st of all the question is kinda dumb.
if you were forced at gunpoint to get rid of your equipment, why would they let you keep one part? depending on the part, the pc would be worthless (for the most part) anyway.

same with financial problems - whats the point in keeping 1 part that you wouldn't be able to use anyway. if you really need money that bad, you would sell everything.

any way you look at it, you would stuck with one part that is totally useless to you.
why not just give everything away??

a better question would be "say you PC is going to be fried by lightning or something to that effect, what one piece would you save - considering the fact that you could go out and buy another pc or more parts?"

i'd have a tough time between the most expensive part and the hard drives. the most expensive part because it costs the most, obviously. the hard drives because i have lots of stuff on there that would not be replaceable or would take me a very long time to get again.

Well, having all of my useful files on a raid, I guess one hard drive wouldn't be much use. I suppose my 6800gt, becasue it's the only thing in my system worth anything anymore.

My mouse. My computer itself is a piece of shniz- it's running the below processor. Hard drive is 20 gb and just has a bunch of shniz on it anyway, it's all replaceable.

My HDD is worth way more than my x800xt, simply because of all the stuff I've procured. I don't want to spend another year dling all the stuff that I have on it.

Monitor.

I have my harddrive backed up elsewhere, otherwise that would have been my pick.

HDD.

It'd be a tough choice of which HDD though... 4 to choose from.
Probably the one with all the music. I don't want to sit there and rip all my CD's ever again.

Harddrive...I got 3 in there, keeping the big one with all my good stuff wouldn't be an issue.

Tulip card. I got a 4 port, 10/100 intel ethernet card for 20$ from ebay a long time ago.... probably started life as part of a PIX firewall.... priceless to me

OK Mr. Pontificator (no wonder that is your username ;) )....the point is not to be literal but more of a spiritual thing.....like "I'd keep my blankety blank video card because I bought it to play my first game of Counter Strike"....or "my {brand name} mobo because I have upgraded the peripherals and changed cases 20 times and it still runs like a champ...I know it like a friend". Don't think logical like "all my files are on it so I'd keep my hard drive"

Lets add to the setting and say all of your files are copied on a spare hard drive or some such in a safe deposit box.

I don't keep important files, pictures, and memos on my "system". I have a lappy for stuff like that. So you can have my Raptor, no way I give up my X800XL or L90D+.

My 2005fpw definitely. My stash of goodies is spread across different hard drives, so saving one wouldn't cut it. :(

My CPU, mobo, vid card, etc. can be taken. I need to upgrade anyway. :D

Well, I just bought an Opteron 170 and wouldn't want to get rid of that...but then I'd be equally unwilling to lose my 2005FPW or HDTV tuner (or hard drive contents probably, assuming I didn't have a hidden backup somewhere)..

I refuse to answer the question :p

Well, with the new stipulation, probably my AIW9800 Pro or my Logitech iFeel Mouseman.

OK with HD out of the picture...
Considering that I have a laptop only I'd say the mobo 'cause then the guy holding the gun to my head couldn't use it ;)
