So how many of you guys(and gals) own a Chihuahua? I have a friend of mine who has one and he is friendly, but still likes to bark at people. Now I can't have pets in my apartment but if I could have one, I think I would get a Chihuahua. They are small and don't eat a not, loyal to a fault, and usually they are not scared of anything.

Not that I get many guests, but I would want one that is kid friendly. And yes those exist too.

If I could have pets, I'd get a cat. Coincidentally, that's exactly what I have. One of my own, and two on (permanent?)loan.

They're yappy...almost all of them.

we have two dogs that are (we think) part chihuahua.

This one was supposed to be pure long-hair chihuahua..

He's not...maybe part chihuahua, part pomeranian...not really sure. He was a rescue. He'll be 16 y.o. Next month.

This one, we know is half chihuahua.

fortunately, he takes more after his father than his mother...He turned 13 y.o. This past summer.

I used to have both a dog and cat. The cat didn't like the dog at all, and the dog was scare to death of said cat...

Chihuahuas are really stupid pets. They're like the cats of the dog world; skittish, biting, and generally assholes. People will think less of you if they know you have a chihuahua.

You might as well just get a cat if you're thinking about getting a chihuahua.

They're afraid of everything, that's why they bark. Watch small dogs when strangers or a bigger dog is in the room with them. They yap from the safety of a doorway that's their escape path or from near a sofa that they can jump behind or under.

we have a chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrorist/Devilbeast cross.
She is a hoot.

Here she is wanting the toy, and the JRT big brother is busy watching Animal Planet.

Oh Really??? I've seen Chihuahuas attack dogs wayyy bigger then then they are and were utterly fearless about doing so.

I wouldn't own a yappy little animal that I could seriously injure if I stepped on it. Too much guilt when it yelps out loud. At least when you step on a cat it doesn't whine. It just gets even :p.

I'm sure any small dog will bite you if stepped on it.

Chihuahuas are the third highest dog breed found in shelters/pound.

"These fun sized pups are hugely popular because of their portable size and their ability to adapt to apartment living and city life. However, some owners choose this low maintenance breed as a compromise because they don’t really have the time for a dog, and these people can get a sharp wake-up call when introduced to the responsibility of dog ownership! This could explain why so many Chihuahuas end up in shelters waiting to be rehomed. "
