If I buy additional fans for this case...

You could if you wanted to use a Y-adapter for the 3 pin connecter and connect 2 fans to one one of the knobs.
 
This case is new. I just ordered one today for my son.

Thermaltake's info page for it is down, so any reply would be a guess.
As for cutting a fan hole, it looks like there is room to install one above the processor area providing it is an 80mm.
For the controller...who knows. It would need to handle quite a bit of current if you planned on pairing 120mm fans.
 
The fan controller with this case is basically the same as two of the control knobs that come with the smart fan II.
The fans have both a power connector (4 pin molex) and a speed connector (2 pin) which hooks up to the controller.

So you are limited to Thermaltake fans using this case unless you don't want to hook them up to the stock controller.
