Whats a good mobo for this chipset and processor, right now he has a pentium 3, 333 mhz, its slow, he wants more speed, he has 3 dimms right now, for 280 ram, but he needs more speed. Please let me know on a good configuration for a motherboard for him. Thanks.

If it's a Socket370 chip get the Asus CUSL2 (or CUSL2-C if you don't want/need onboard video).

Has 3 DIMMs for a max of 512MB of RAM and will take up to a 1Ghz P3.

I dont know what a 750 or 850 Pentium 3 is. Its slot 1 i think, because its long, like 5 inches long. I saw it yesterday. Looks like an old school athlon.

Sure they are SergeantTux, I have a PIII 1000mhz slot 1.

Timers, I use an Asus p3v4x for my chip. I love my board.

i had a slot 1 667. they are more expensive and harder to find and i do not believe they offer any advantage over the flip chip in terms of performance. dont forget you can always buy a slotket to use slot 1's in socket 370

I think you'll also have to consider getting some better ram as I'm pretty sure what your dad has in his pc at present is PC66 ram!
btw I think he's got a celeron & not a p3.
then again, I could be completely mistaken here!

<< 750mhz PIII's arent slotted, are they? I didnt think anything over like the 600 was made as a slot... >>

450-600 old style P3 Katmai must be slot form.
500+ coppermine P3 can be either, the slot ones are a bit harder to find becuase Intel is phasing out slot, but for people that want to keep their old boards, there are some Slot P3s available up to 1Ghz even.

For a Slot P3 I would recommend an i440BX board, I'd take an Asus P3B-F myself becuase I still have nightmares about my encounter with a BE6...I dont't know how different the BE6-II is...

I'd get a Asus TUSL2-C but I don't think they are out yet. You might want to check out the Asus CUSL2-C. Very solid board!

Go with the Asus CUSL2- revision c (revision C doesnt have built on video) this is a good stable board that work still if you ever decided to upgrade to the 1000MHz PIII. That is if it is a Socket 370 Processor. If its a slot 1 go with the Abit BE6-2. It is also a pretty nice board.

I clarified my earlier post to read BE6-II. The Asus P3B-F is another very good choice.

Both the TUSL and CUSL are socket-based boards.

Intel's 815ep (e if non-gamer) mobo, should be good for your dad. Or Asus's CUSL2-C (CUSL2 if non gamer.
