One that at least has it's own lot, NOT in a park.

Do I automaticly become trailer trash??

Any of you fine folks out there live in "Moble Homes"?

Do you like it?

Being trailer trash is mutually exclusive from actually living in a trailer.

I think my family meets the criteria:

Tall grass
Owns really crappy chevy
Garage has never held a car, filled w/junk.
3 refrigerators, 3 freezers 2 of which dont work
3 ton commercial A/C unit on porch

et al.

hey, don't forget teh camaro on cinder blocks in the front...

But I had an ex that lived in a "pre-fabricated" home, it was actually kinda nice. The biggest problem that I had with it is that when I walked around, I could feel the floor give a little. They also tear apart kinda easy too, high winds, floods... things like that. But hey, they are hella cheap, so it is possible to get a lot of square feet for very little.

Modular is the way to go ;)

I'm currently living in one, it was built in Canada and shipped down here. The construction is excellent, and the price is good too (no tax! :D)

Seems REAL cheap for what it is. Unless it's a missprint.

It SAYS "Property style: DBL-WDE"

Yes, I think that's what that is. Nice house, though.

Looks nice..I know a few people that set up double wides into nice homes..want more room just add another one. Seen some nice places in a H pattern using 3 double wides. Lots of room..2 baths..big kitchen. As many bedrooms as you want to set up. Double pane windows.

Geez, you have to walk to the mailbox. I thought you were going to buy a fixer upper. I would stick to that plan. You want not only cheap, but something that will increase in value. My opinion is that a house would do that better, expecially one with sweat equity. I think you need to spend some time studying the market and talking to realtors and others that know your target local.

my girlfriend's dad has a manufactured house, but it is two story and is worth more than $300,000. Manufactured homes can be prebuilt and then laid where ever. A mobil home is not a manufactured home. A mobile home has a title, a manufactured home has a deed.

Well I would prefure a REAL house, but home prices in this area are SKYHIGH. (Eugene Oregon)

I have found a few moble homes in my price range that include the land. I will NOT pay rent on a lot! And I want something I can build on. I want a shop space, garage, etc.

The house doesn't have to be right in town either. One of the out laying area's would be OK, as long as it's no more than a 15-20 minute drive.

A fixer upper is what I really hope to find. But I am also thinking about other options at this point.

Anyone know what a Yurt is? Thats another option.

You'll be an instant target for any tornadoes in the area..

As luck would have it, they are VERY rare here!

You could always buy a piece of land and a cheap mobile home. Then save and build a house on the land doing a lot of the work yourself.

my parents have a pre-fab home. Its really a nice place its 3 bedrooms 2 baths and they paid like $55k for it. though they pay like $200 a month for lot rent.

They live in a area that has a bunch of these. you have to obey the rules such as keeping the lawn nice, no motorcycles, no large 1 ton trucks and no pets. So all the places look really nice.

Me and the wife thought about getting one. but dont know if we want to move that close to my dad heh.
