If I buy a computer to be used only for work-related purposes, can I deduct it at tax time?

Don't have an official home office per se, but I need to buy a computer for testing out some work related things....

probably not

they changed the rules for that stuff a few years back, and the requirements are quite strict

CPA can probably list a 1,2,3 things you must meet type rule about it

I think your company must require you to have a computer at home for work to be able to write it off on taxes, or perhaps if you are self employed

Do you own your own business? If so then of course you can write it off. Otherwise i'd talk to some people at your place of employment about it.
