If I buy a 6800 GT what speed processor should I have?

Would going from a 3200 to a 3500 with that videocard make much of a difference in games? or would I be better off getting an even faster processor and then a 6600 GT instead?

Thanks

NO, the difference would be minimal and you probably wouldn't notice. A faster processor and 6600gt would be much worse than a slower proccesor and 6800gt. Get a 3200+ and a 6800gt. The 3200 also overclocks extremely well, you can get to 2.4ghz easily.

I say get a 3000+ venice/oc it/and go for the 6800gt/and oc it. That is if you are in to oc'ing. A great combo for gaming....you will not be dissapointed.

Ok thanks guys! thats what I kinda figured. Such a system will be better for long term upgrades too as I can double the videocard and make a big jump in processor at a later time since I'm probably getting the ASUS NF4 SLI motherboard.

yeah, if you get the 3200, you can easily pass fx-55 speeds, so dont waste money on a more expensive proc.

The SLI potential as an upgrade is worthles......you'll just want to buy a whole new card in the future. GF70 and r520 are supposed to be 2x the power of current cards anyways. Save your money on the SLI board, buy a DFI Ultra-D.

That said buy the 3200, the winchester core has a wall at about 2.7 anyway. But try to get a Venice if you can.

.

SLI owners really like it . . . SLI has "proven itself" cost effective. We know NOTHING for sure about the G70 . . . other then nVidia HAS taken into account current SLI owners. 😉

I have seen the benchmarks for the SLI and they look very good. Once the 6800 GTs drop price a lot, I can get another and drop it in and it will be a very good low cost improvement.

I will read up a little more on the venice. Seems like that might be the way to go. Are there any potential disadvantages to getting a venice?
