if i bought an Asus A7N8X deluxe, would i still be able to use my Athlon Thunderbird 1.4Ghz (266bus) CPU on it, or would i NEED to buy an Athlon XP CPU?

for the time being, i just want the motherboard because it has 6 USB ports. i have all 4 filled up right now on my Asus A7M266 and i'd rather not buy a USB hub or USB PCI card when i plan to upgrade the motherboard anyways.

and would i be taking advantage of the dual memory bandwidth thing if i'm using 2 x 256MB PC2100 DIMMS in combination with the 1.4Ghz thunderbird?

Yes indeed, it will work with your CPU, and you will be taking advantage of the dual memory controllers as long as one module is in slot 1.

no, but at 49.99 the 1700+ will have those intel instructions and you'll get a preformance boost if you reinstall windows.

and dual channel is m00t at best unless you have IGP. It score like 100 more in benchmarks when memory is running in dual channel
