Would you trust it? I think they have not implemented anything like this because they do not want a reason to have law enforcement and legislation looking at their service.

I don't trust any encryption I don't hold the tools for, and doesn't have auditable code. Might be a nice addon where security isn't /required/, but I wouldn't trust it.

Open source, full control of your data, traffic, and encryptions. Otherwise, I would just be too paranoid :/ Pretty much lxskllr's points right here.

No third party encryption is to be relied on and law enforcement is certainly looking into peoples' gmail.
lxskllr hit the nail on the head. Put it to you this way I trust it as much as whatsapp or any megacorp server side encryption (not at all).

Those are pretty much my own thoughts. Gmail is definitely the foremost mainstream email platform, but it would be nice to have PGP Encryption baked-in. I think if they had strong security the feds would be knocking on their door, legislative hearings held, and a back door that cripples the security contract implemented. Glad to hear my thoughts are not unfounded paranoia.
