It's kind of the same situation that got Trump elected. Half the nation is nuts!He got 49,5% in the first round, Kemal got 45% mathematically it is almost over

Easier to do you effectively control the media. He won 52 to 48
Just amping up his base for the vote. Pretty sure he'll back off this now that he's elected. On final day of campaign, Erdogan accuses Turkish opposition of working with Biden
Hating on the US to win an election is... telling, for what Turkey desires. And it's not closer ties with us.
Nope, strategically, they are still critical the NATO security. So, we have to suck it up for now.90% of media is state run, tally on the runoff yesterday is 32 hours of Erdogan and 30 *minutes* opposition.
Turkey has fallen. We should talk about getting them out of NATO.
Writing off the 48% pro-western secular Turks and pushing Turkey to the Arab-Wahabism ideology is not a good long term plan. Arabs have money, Turkey has the militarist mind and productive work ethic. I still don't understand why CIA have worked so hard to plant Islamists into Turkish Politics and Army to turn the country in this direction starting from 1980'ies90% of media is state run, tally on the runoff yesterday is 32 hours of Erdogan and 30 *minutes* opposition.

Are you sure about that? CIA would want the exact opposite coz planting islamists is sowing the seeds for a future ISIS state.I still don't understand why CIA have worked so hard to plant Islamists into Turkish Politics and Army to turn the country in this direction starting from 1980'ies

Source: Me ... I live in Turkey. There are tons of articles I can quote but I am too lazy. Just take my word and continue the discussion. (I understand if you just mock me, no hard feelings)Source?
By the way, I heard a funny thing from my Turkish friend about Erdogan never wanting to increase interest rates coz interest is haram. He has promised to always lower the interest rate. I think he is clueless about economy at a macro levelWriting off the 48% pro-western secular Turks and pushing Turkey to the Arab-Wahabism ideology is not a good long term plan.
By who?The Fetullah Gülen cult, which tried to overthrow Erdogan in 2016 were strategically placed in the military and the Turkish State
Well Gülen followers had a worldwide strategy to open schools in 123 countries, had endless source of funding and it was all tied to a high school graduate preacher (Imam). Their base is in Pennsylvania, USA. After the failed coup all their strategic people relocated to the US. I am not saying "United States is to blame what happened to Turkey etc. etc.", I am asking "What was the strategic reason?" because I am surprised to see commentators calling Turkey to be pushed out of NATO (which is practically impossible). Why would the US direct an ally to this path ? A Turkey close to the Eurasian pact (Russia, China) is not a good thing .. Or is it ?By who?
And who owns most of the media?Source: Me ... I live in Turkey. There are tons of articles I can quote but I am too lazy. Just take my word and continue the discussion. (I understand if you just mock me, no hard feelings)
The 1980'ies were still the time of the Cold War, look up "Green Belt" strategy of United States to contain USSR fully surrounded by Islamist countries (like Afghans in the same decade which turned into Taliban), but that strategy was more than that, The Fetullah Gülen cult, which tried to overthrow Erdogan in 2016 were strategically placed in the military and the Turkish State, continued to get support to get the secular Army out of the way and control the politics through Erdogan and his AKP. Why this support continued after USSR went down is my question. Because Turkey was NATO compliant and an ally of USA politically. A few differences came up during Gulf War I but this is a much later incident
Who tf knows what the calculus was back then, the thing to focus on right now is doing better than yesterday. Noone have a clean past. Lets just agree to move towards better.Source: Me ...
