We DO need a WAR on drugs, and it needs to start on T.V. and in my in box!!! :|

Does anyone else see the irony in all this?:Q

Drugs or illegal drugs?

I didn't know that there was that much freedom to the extent of such broadcasting?

Why are most illegal drugs illegal?

Cuz uncle Sam and or some big pharmaceutical company can't make a lot of $$$$ from the use of them.

Do you really think the legal ones being pushed on T.V. are THAT much "better" than some of the illegal ones?

I remember as a kid hearing how drug pushers will give you freebies "Just try this.." then once you are "hooked" up goes the price.

Yet it seems an awful lot of these drugs ads on T.V. say "Just ask your Dr. for a free sample" or "Call or visit our web site for your free 28 day sample"

Why are THESE pushers any better than the local dealer down on the street corner?

I've done drugs off and on since the early 70's yet I hold down a steady job, have never robbed or stolen to support my "habit" and have never been addicted to any of them.

My Mother on the other hand was taking prescription drugs and stopped cold turkey. She ended up in the hospital with with drawls. But THOSE drugs were OK since her Doctor gave them to her!

That happened to my father as well, he injured his back and was placed on heavy pain meds, he took them for about 3 years and when he stopped he went through hell. Although I have never had a problem with my use of a certain controlled drug.

Personally, I feel if booze is legal, weed should be as well. Because frankly, more people get killed as a result from alcohol than from weed. I only smoked it once a long time ago...but those hippies who write papers about it needing to be legalized have some valid points. I've never heard of some one OD on pot, and despite those commercials showing babies run over by some one smoking pot...I've never heard of them hurting anyone else. Most of the time people just sit around and act happy.

actually they could make a ton of money off of them. look how much the government makes on cigarettes.

really it basically comes down to social norms. certain drugs are seen as deviant behavior, while others aren't. when you try to make a previously deviant behavior the norm, people get really upset because it threatens "society" and makes them feel really insecure. the thing with illegal drugs is exactly the same as the issue with homosexual marriage. that's why people think it "threatens" their own marriages, not because it makes their marriage invalid (though this is the reason they often claim) but because it threatens to make society as a whole looser. to feel comfortable, people need a stable society, just like dogs need to know their place in the pack or they get anxious. so any time someone tries to change the rules, people have an irrational hissy-fit because they "don't know what the world is coming to anymore." if people would just think it out, they'd see that sometimes there can be good reasons for changing our norms. and of course, by exposing people to it a lot (and by having each new generation get older with their new set of norms), deviant behavior will eventually become the norm. so my bet is that over time we certain drugs start to be legal.

Just remember that drugs are not the answer. That is, unless the question is 'What is not the answer?'.

Well said, I took a psych class on substance abuse back in college and the prof. thought about the same on those lines, especially in regards to marijuana. I think if Canada doesn't cave into pressure from the US then we will have the same policies here, at least to the point of decriminalization.

That's because there's a lot of people that have absolutely no problem with legal drugs but think illegal drugs are the worst thing in the world. They automatically assume because it's illegal, IT MUST BE BAD.

Which in my opinion is what makes POT a gateway drug.

You hear all your life about how EVIL and dangerous pot is then one day you try it and find out what "THEY" said is all B.S. so then you wonder what ELSE they said is total crap. Whala, there's your gateway! ;)

As far as the gov. not making $$ on pot hence keeping it illegal. Anyone with any sort of green thumb can grow pot so how is big brother gonna get HIS cut? They get a cut from booze, they get a cut from tobacco but those are fairly easy things to control, or at least things that wouldn't be cost effective for the average person to produce. Pot is totally different.
