Now, for the record.. I will say that if our country was faced with a genuine threat, I would happily join the national guard... be it via the military, or otherwise....

Seriously when have we ever faced a serious overseas threat?
Our country is young.. PH is the only one that I know of.

I don't like the politics, but I would defend my land and family to the death.

Too bad for you it doesn't work like that.
Well, that's just too bad then. They can kiss my cold dead ass if they think they can drag me off to fight(against my will). The whole idea goes against the ideals that this country was founded on, IMO.

You're clueless. The Revolutionary War was fought by people volunteering, and leaving their families to go fight. Volunteering to fight is what this country was founded on. They aren't going to kiss your cold dead ass if they can't drag you off to fight, but they will throw you in prison, and then someone will be doing a lot more than kissing your ass.

Wait, why are you all attacking me? I never said that I wouldn't fight voluntarily... I certainly would if I believed in the cause.

I was kinda talking about the whole freedom aspect, ya know? I'm not free if they can force me to do their bidding.

What the fvck is it you think this country was founded on. Do you not think there were people against the revolutionary war? If nothing else I figured you people would pay attention to South Park. Did they draft? No not really. They didn't have the authority. If they did they would have. Next time I'm bowing to the Queen I'll send your regards....oh wait.......
Again, I don't understand the flame.

Why is it wrong to defy what you don't believe in?

I am talking about the silly conflict in Iraq. How is it comparable to the Revolutionary War?

Hmm.. I think I understand, but it is difficult for me to rationalize fighting for something when you do not know that it is "right"(assuming here that I'm like the ones that were against the RevolutionaryWar, right?)

I'm still a little confused, though.. what does it have to do with modern day? I have a strong feeling that I would have volunteered in a heartbeat if we were dealing with the same type of situation now...

Actually I doubt you would (volunteer). Most people are happy with the status quo. It is the few who take initiative (for right or wrong) that make a difference.

Also the draft must be reinstated by congress and the President. That means that the people of the country by their representitives have chosen to do so. Ultimately it is not up to your beliefs unless you choose to do something about the current laws. I would hope that you aren't saying that people should disobey the law based on their personal beliefs.

Actually if you bothered to research a little a lot of things have changed. Also why didn't you say it is "kind of like Clinton eh?"

You are exactly right. The civil war was not fought according to this countries beliefs. Spare me the "all men were created equal" crap unless you know how many of the FF owned slave or were advocates of slavery.

Hmm, no... certainly not.

I understand.. that is just difficult for me to wrap my head around. It is very interesting, though.

How are you supposed to know what is right or wrong, though? Wouldn't you sort-of feel like sheep if you were just doing it because they told you that is what needs to be done(assuming you don't really believe in it in the first place)?

I dunno, I guess I'm just too peaceful at heart or something.. I'll defend, but it's hard for me to get up in arms about something and "go out and get 'em", at least with my life experiences so far.
