If CS:S isn't hard enough on your videocard already

I figured the player models in CS:S were a bit flat looking so I took the liberty of adding some bumpmaps and specular highlighting to them. If you want to check them out yourself, download them from here.

They run just fine on my machine but they are big textures so it might be more taxing on cards with less memory; I'm curious to see how well older systems run it.

I was missing a folder in the directory structure but I updated the download now.

If you already installed it you can simply take the models folder, which it created, and move that it into the materials folder. That will fix you right up.

It's just like swaping skins in old school CS; works online fine for nomral play, though I am sure leagues won't alow it.

As for DoD source; it isn't even out yet. 😉

I remember I couldn't play with custom skins installed in 1.6. 🙁 That was sad because they worked in 1.5. My kills went to about half after they took away my leet M4 skin.

I always used custom models with 1.6, you just can use models compiled for 1.5 with 1.6 becaused they changed a few things.

So the standard models are the old models from the orignal just grafted onto the source engine?

I never knew that the new Source was able to produce that much bump mapping, in fact i thought it was just a bit, sweet.

thanks for that, in any case, how did u do that...

Any chance we could get some before and after shots of your work? I looked at the pic, but not having ever seen CS:S in action, I don't know what I'm really looking at.

this is a good pic for comparison. Notice how flat everything looks and how the boots and such don't have any shine to them where is in my pics they do.

Nah, they are new models but they are just plain textured so I added enviroment mapping and bumpmaping. As for how I did it, I just dug though and figured out how they did those effects on other textures and applied it to the models, I used the same tools everyone uses for makeing custom sprays.
