if classic cars are so beautiful, why don't manufacturers just remake them?

Why don't the detroit 3 just rerelease the look of the cars from their glory days, but with new guts and safety features? Not for all their lines, but maybe for 1 model.

I know that they won't be as big or look 100% the same, but why not a modern sized car that looks 90% like a classic?

It might hurt the sales of classic cars, but the manufacturers shouldn't care too much.

safety features

todays required safety features and standards would most likely cause a redesign of many areas of the car.

http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/FMVSS/index.html

it wouldn't be cost effective for the company. so to get around it companies use licensed dealers like dynacorn. to offer updated bodies at a high price for the end user to update with modern workings. this gets around the need for the new safety features as the car only has to meet the safety features of that time period.

Because even though they're beautiful, they look dated.

The current Mustang isn't a copy of the first one, it's a modern looking car with retro styling cues. The Camaro is a scifi future car with even fewer retro styling cues.

i'm an idiot...i forgot about the ICON brand vehicles.

complete turnkey models that have updated internals but look like the original at first glance.

edit: i would possibly buy one of their CJ models...

Well, over 6 inches in two of 3 dimensions is a pretty big difference. Maybe not as much as the first picture, but the second picture doesn't really show the size well as far as I can tell.

Yes, I agree with this.

The PT Cruiser and VW New Beetle are both retro styled cars. When they were new in the late 90s and early 2000s, they looked pretty radical compared to the designs of the time, but now they don't really stand out from all the other cars on the road.

god those old Tauru's were and still are ugly.

The original Taurus was revolutionary, and had a futuristic design (for its time) that changed the course of automotive styling.

Obviously whether you actually like it or not is totally subjective. I do, partly because it's not a bad looking car (especially given its age) and partly because I appreciate the impact it had.

i think you could fit that old SHO's wheel and tire within just the new SHO's chrome wheels.

oh and fsck chrome. why does detroit need to shovel it all over everything? look at how understated and mature the old SHO's wheels look compared to the gangsta new ones. terrible.

Lol, look at the styling of the current Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger. Then look at the glory days models of those cars.

Look familiar?
