No, I haven't killed my mobo. But I am mighty afraid to flash the bios mostly because I haven't seen anybody doing it and where I am from, nobody within 100 km has done it either.
So the reason is ignorance and the fear of what happens if the MOBO dies after a bios flash goes wrong. How to resurrect it?(Please dont tell those RMA things because I don't even know the full form of RMA, In india there is no such thing as RMA).Here a guy spends about a third of his month's salary to get a decent inthusiast's MOBO and if it dies there is nobody who can help.
So, the upshot of this rant is WHAT TO DO IF BIOS FLASH GOES BAD?
Any answers,Docs.?

PS: Is spare bios chip available independent of the mobo?If so i would like to buy one in case i decide to flash the bios and it goes wrong.

OOPS!

Check out your manufacturers website - many have a bad flash recovery procedure. Read up on that process and have what you need to do it if you need to. (usually a 2nd disk handy with a previous version of the BIOS and knowing what to do to tell your motherboard to run the recovery)

Flashing a BIOS can be nerve-racking the first time you do it. The biggest thing that can go wrong is a power failure during the flash. Also, people have been known to accidentally flash the wrong BIOS for their motherboard. The procedure has been made easier, however. Some companies like Asus and Abit have programs that allow you to flash over the internet, rather than relying on a floppy. I've done it both ways many times and have had no problems. If for some reason you do have a bad flash, many motherboard-makers have a recovery procedure, as another person mentioned. Or, you can get a replacement BIOS chip for around $15-20. You shouldn't let fear stop you from updating your motherboard.

you can also go someplace like badflash.com
if your bios chip gets killed while flashing it, then these guys can program a new bios chip and ship it to you... then you just need to pop it in the motherboard

but really its quite safe to flash your bios. and you shouldnt worry about it to much.
