Beer is an acquired taste.

IMO a good beer tastes better than any other foods or drinks.
For example, St Bernardus abt 12 is so good that every time I drink it, I consider dropping atheism and believing in a god.

things that don't have an acquired taste are usually "simpler" in tastes. They are sweet or sour or salty and thus ... they taste good right off the bat. I experience pretty hefty diminishing margainal returns on things like that usually. Things get boring or bland. With Beer, however, the flavors are so bountiful and massive, as well as diverse, that it's nearly impossible to get bored of the flavor.

I don't drink beer for effects. I drink beer because it is delicious.
I'm not about to drink 8 or 9 bottles of $10 beer in one night just to get effects. Good beer is too good and too expensive to waste on binge drinking.

If I want to drink for effects, I'll do that with my buddy Jim Beam.

Very well put. I can't agree with you more. Though for drink effects I tend to move towards Jack or Captain.

Mmmm ... Captain ...
I LOVE the private stock .....
I do sometimes drink that for the effects too ....

But Jim Beam is like $20 for a 1.75 Liter bottle. It's good going down. It usually doesn't want to come back up. It's a win win situation.

I've been drinking beer for the better part of 3 years now and still am not a huge fan of it. I'll drink it in social situations and all when there's nothing else to drink, but I'll take a strong mixed drink over beer any day..

1) Not all wheat beer is unfiltered.
2) Unfiltered beer, any beer, is actually often much better at preventing hangover due to the remnant yeast. I'm sure you've heard people suggest you take some brewer's yeast to prevent hangover?

That said, people that get headaches from drinking a lot of unfiltered beer is usually due to a slight allergy to the yeast or any other additives. Good unfiltered beer is usually free of additives though.

LOL, absolutely! Belgian-style ales (whether made in Belgium or US) are simply exceptional.

I live in the microbrew capital of the US and absolutely love beer. However, I've never been a fan of wheat beers. It's not that I don't like the taste, it's just that I prefer a good ale instead. I feel the same way about most lagers.

I know my beers, but I'm a total wine noob.

The few times I have had wine though, I will agree that it is good stuff.

The wife and I have been trying to get into wine... We went to a wine tasting at ABC. It was all good except for the fact that they had beers there too. Guess where we spent most of our time...

Umm, what?
Since when does trying something and not liking the taste = only being comfortable with what you know?
You can try new things and like OR dislike them.
I dislike beer, and I have tried it more than once. I don't see a reason why I should try and get used to it when IMO it tastes like ass. I would much rather stick to other things that I have tried and DO like the taste of.
Lets face it, not everyone likes everything, is that so hard to accept?

Crappy beer tastes like crap. Branching out from Schlitz or Old Mil would be a good step. Widmer Hefeweizen and Bridgeport IPA are heaven on earth.

I encourage you all to give Pacifico beer a try. It's a great beer with a very smooth taste that goes extremely well with a bit of lemon on a hot summer day.

 to not following the herd. "I must love alcohol or I'll be a social outcast!" If you don't like it, you don't like it. I've tried most of the major alcohols (wine/beer/hard liquor) and even been drunk on occasion, but I don't really prefer alcohol over other beverages. I still sample some occasionally, but if I'm out, I'm more likely to select coffee/tea/soda/juices. It's much cheaper, tastes better to me, and doesn't leave me wondering what exactly I did the night before.
