If you believe the Democratic Party, Bain Capital is nothing but a bunch of vampire capitalists. They outsource jobs to other countries, close steel mills and take lollypops from little babies.

According to Open Secrets, during the present election cycle these Democratic Party candidates took a total of $335,700 from Bain, its lobbyists and employees. So if the Democrats believe Bain is so evil, why are these candidates taking their money?

Candidate Bain Capital Donations
John Kerry $76,200
Michael F. Bennet $37,000
Mark Warner $32,700
Tim Kaine (Candidate For US Senate in Virginia) $30,000
Claire McCaskill $22,500
Jeanne Shaheen $17,100
Al Franken $15,000
Jack Reed $15,000
Jim Himes $15,000
Sheldon Whitehouse $11,800
Mark Udall $11,300
Nancy Pelosi $10,000
Joe Kennedy III (Candidate For Mass. District 4) $10,000
Richard Blumenthal $9,600
Christopher S. Murphy $7,500
Andrei Cherny (Candidate For Arizona District 9) $7,500
David Cicilline $5,000
Niki Tsongas $2,500
Total $335,700

Are any of those people speaking out against Bain? Why would you expect people to not criticize Bain because they gave money to someone else?

Who said Bain was "evil"?

Monsanto? Sure. Halliburton? Maybe. Bain? Nope, but it does serve to illuminate policy and tactics that are hard to reconcile with our current economic condition and the causes behind it. If Romney wasn't tooting his business horn I doubt Bain would be in the news.

While not the damning act of hypocrisy the GOP wishes it was (then again, they're pointing at anything to get people to stop gawking at their trainwreck ) I agree it doesn't look great and feel those guys should donate the funds to a charity.

Perhaps one specializing in finding people jobs and temp housing?

Every Corporation is Evil and Good in it's own ways.

They all influence politicians with their money.

Nothing in this country will ever change until legal bribery aka lobbying is illegal and there is an Audit and MANY are put in jail.

Read: it will never happen.

No really, I seriously don't understand the point of this thread. Are you saying that because Bain donated to some Democrats that other Democrats who didn't take donations from them aren't allowed to criticize Bain? This is a truly bizarre position to hold.

Additionally, people seem to think that money acts as a corrupting influence and that people who accept donations from companies act on their behalf. Wouldn't criticizing your own campaign donors be evidence of independence? Wouldn't you WANT such a thing?

I get the feeling that you didn't think this through.

Are you still beating your straw wife?

Criticizing Romney for outsourcing jobs and looting pension funds while CEO of Bain is not saying "BANE BE EEEVILLL!" it's pointing out what to expect from him if he's elected.

If they were people we could kick their ass for stealing from us. The fact that the law recognizes them as people shows what a joke our legal system really is, and how deep in the pockets of big business the legal system is.

Yep. Yet another in an endless stream of examples showing that the right has become irrational. These people cannot use simple logic of the sort I expect from my 11-year-old.

Because they are politicians?

^this.

Bain Capital is going to spend the money where they need to in order to influence the political system to their favor. Democratic Party members in general aren't as under the thumb as members of the Republic Party so Bain throws extra money at them.

This does however highlight how messed up, ill-conceived, and stupid the citizen's united decision was.

How much time out of their day does a congress member have to spend fundraising?

I've hear about half their day fundraising according to what I've heard listening to the radio.

and this http://www.kare11.com/video/1655310968001/1/Election-2012-Congresss-Fundraising-Addiction

seems to back that up.

That's 20 hours a week that they should be working on serving this country and representing their constituents.

However, they need the money because if they don't spend the time fundraising they'll be outspent by someone who will.

This list doesn't change the fact that Governor Romney's campaign hasn't yet said they'll release his tax returns.

And the Democrats you listed weren't listed on the SEC filings as Bain's Owner and CEO.

Maybe Bain Capital stopped being evil when Romney stopped leading it.

Because, regardless of party affiliation, politicians have never met a dollar they didn't like.

It doesn't matter WHERE that dollar comes from...as long as they can get their grubby hands on it.

As has been said, I'll believe corporations are people when Texas executes one.
