One of the possible outcomes is a ban on importation of HTC devices that violate the patents Apple holds...

Our phones may well become orphans.

One of the reasons I suspect this might happen is that I don't think Jobs will settle for $... Or if he does it would be so much $ that it would make the offending phones too expensive for the market, unless HTC spread the costs over their entire phone line.

Just musing out loud, and shit like what I'm guessing has happened in the past, and it'll happen again.

This is why i'm so angry at apple. Look at nokia in comparison. They have the GSM patents and could extort major $ out of of other firms with them,but instead just use them to forge cross licensing agreements.This helps consumers by spreading the ip around without extra $ going to licenses.

When apple released the iphone with GSM, Nokia just asked for cross licensing for their multitouch patents, but apple refused and just used GSM, anyway. they don't want smartphones to become comoditized and cheaper. They want to the only game in town and will stifle competition as much as they can, fucking consumers over in the process.

I think New Zealand just proposed a new major reform to CP with big changes to software patents especially. Maybe there's hope?

I don't think there is any real chance of Apple winning. It would have to be a pretty huge screw up on both HTC's part and the court system to not abolish most of those patents that Apple is trying to use in the suit.

Yeah, back in the day. The decision was a) fight it for ten more years and have it hang over for them affecting business and investor confidence or b) shut them up with a bag of money and move on.

11 million devices per qtr and yearly income of over $15bn says it was a wise and very tough decision to make, but it was for the best.

The patents Apple is suing under are so ridiculously broad. If the court has any sense of decency they'll get thrown out.

Anyway, the outcome will not be HTC devices being removed from the market, I will go on record on that one right now. If Apple does win, they'll just take lots and lots of money.

I wouldn't be upset if I felt they actually had an argument... The Samsug Galaxy S is much more like a direct rip-off of the iPhone from the pictures I've seen.
