the lovely ex-fiancee took my satellite, so I am in need of a new system. So I called up DISH. They said to wait until Thursday (feb 2nd), because they will be offering MPEG-4 HD DVRs for free to new customers w/ 18mo subscription!!!!

oooh toasty...

I haven't been a fan of DishNetwork, but I've seen some of the 625's that split DVR to 2 TV's.....they are freaking SWEET.

This is WRONG. The CSR that gave you this information needs to be retrained. I work for DISH (not as a CSR, I work at their Inverness campus where they have engineering and some other things) and I know that to be wrong. You can get a DVR for no charge under the current promotions and the upcoming promotions. But an HD DVR will run you a cost of a $249 upgrade fee and you will be leasing the box.

I donno, is Dish any good? I thought you don't really own the dish, you borrow it. And their interface is years behind DirectTV's (well, last I saw it at least, it was).

Interface is partial to each person's opinion. From what I have heard from other folks the interface on the modern Dish boxes is way ahead of what DirecTV currently has available. I personally don't have a DirecTV setup but I do like the Dish interface.

They may have been confused with the regular DVRs and told you about that instead. Currently I'm not aware of any new SD DVRs coming out from Dish just the new HD DVR units.
