Ok, from the sounds of my posts lately, it may seem like I work for BB or Pioneer, but seriously, I just go to BB a lot because it's so close and I usually just walk in there to pick up something small.

Well today I went in looking for some Canon photo paper (about $15) and strolled into the Magnolia department. I like walking in there to see what's new and if there is some MUST have deals. Well the sales guys there know me by now and walked up to me and said, "just to let you know, Rewards Zone members can purchase our products for 10% over BB cost." I then asked him, purely out of curiosity, how much is your Elite 111FD? He then went back to his computer and said, "WOW, it's $2378!" And at that price, I just couldn't pass it up so I said alright, I'll take it. So it's going in one of my rooms as an extra TV. And I didn't even get my printer paper. :(

Anyway, I think the sale is just for today, so if you want a great deal on ANY TV (or I think anything else) check out your local BB. I don't think it is advertised, so you may have to ask about it.

Shit, that's only a hair more than I spent on a Samsung LN52B750.... I wonder if I can return it and get the 111FD in its place. When I went to BB, I looked at the Pioneer just for a lark and the list price was $4,499, so that's a crazy awesome deal.

If you can return it, then definitely do. Best Buy's official policy is 30 days to return with no questions asked, but I've heard of people returning TVs past that.

Edit: I wonder how much the 151FD is.

Well you can definitely return it if you are within the 30 day window, however the REAL question is, is the sale still going on? And the only way to find out is to ask. :) I asked the sales guy and he said the sale was just for that day (I don't know if he meant that weekend or just Sunday). But like I said, it won't hurt to ask.

Best Buy policy is to honor a sales price within the last week (at least that's been my experience). If it's not on sale, he should say that a salesman told him it was $2378 yesterday. If it really was that price at his store, then they should be able to pull it up in the computer and honor that price.

I did that exact thing when I purchased my 5080. I saw it for $1,899 one night, and the only reason I didn't jump on it right then was because I was seriously considering the 6010 instead. 3-4 days later I finally decided that a 44% larger screen was not worth a 137% price increase (the 6010 was $4500 online at the time), so I went to Best Buy to buy it. The price was $2,500 now, but I told the salesman I had seen the sticker marked $1,899 last Wednesday. He pulled it up in the computer and confirmed the price. It was actually a pricing mistake, and when I went to checkout, the sales manager didn't want to honor the price. However, we tracked down the salesman, who said he promised me that price, and I got myself an awesome deal :)

I'm sure you could have gotten a GREAT deal on the 151, but I didn't ask about it. I would have liked to know just for curiosity's sake, but that's how I ended up with a TV instead of some printer paper.

Another thing to note, BB had a BUNCH of Pioneer displays models (open box) in the front of the store. This may vary depending on the store, but they had an open box 151 for ~$3100. I also think they had a 111 for ~$1700. I don't like buying display model though as I have no idea how many hours are on the set and the thing had a ridiculous amount of finger prints on it. And if you know anything about Kuros, finger prints are not fun to get off the set. Another thing I noticed is when I went back to the Magnolia section, my wife pointed out a Windex bottle sitting right next to their 141 on display. She then asked me, "are they cleaning that screen with Windex?" She knows that's a BIG no no with Pioneer displays. I then told her, "I sure hope they aren't."

So the moral of the story, be careful when buying display models.

In my experience dealing with Best Buy, their policies are all over the place and they'll honor what they feel like honoring. It is REALLY irritating and it feels like you're pulling teeth sometimes with them. The times I do make large purchases from them, it is usually something they offer me. I stopped price matching with them because they price match whatever they feel like price matching. But yeah, if you can get them to honor yesterday's sale, go for it!!

Sorry, should've specified, I didn't get the Samsung through BestBuy; I took advantage of the deal on Amazon. I'll have to look at my local BestBuy and see what they say about getting the Pioneer at that price. Somehow, I doubt it will work out with me getting the Elite. Oh well; both are good TVs.

You're right, both TVs are great, but give the Elite a shot. I'd be interested to see if they extend the offer to you. If they do, you're in luck. If you need more ammo, refer to BB's customer reviews on the 111 on their site. Customers mentioned getting the 111 for $2400 and BB matching it when they brought up the review saying they bought it at BB for that price.

Good luck, but either way you'll end up with a great set. :)

God, I wish I was buying a tv this year instead of last year. Curse being in school and not having $2400 laying around!!!!!

:eek:OOO

At both of the stores I've worked at (my previous one and the one I'm currently at), we use the Monster Screenclean bottles to clean the screens. Probably one of the only monster products I love (and they work great on my glasses too! :D). Never seen anyone use windex on anything. Ick.

Pioneer will be. Even though they are leaving the display market, they'll still be providing the support and will still be honoring the 2 year warranty that comes with the Elite sets.
