If any of these were possible, which would you rather have?

HyperSpace, WarpSpeed, LudicrousSpeed, or SpaceFolding?

I have been reading a lot of Star Wars books lately, and I've also been watching a lot of TNG. (Yes I'm a nerd ;)) They got me wondering about the drives involved in their faster than the speed of light travel. Both are very similar, but when you travel at Warpspeed it is easier to control the speed.

I'd choose Warpspeed. :D

Poll Edited: Now added!

Ludicrous Speed
Space Folding

OMG Nerd Alert. Nerd Alert!!

I think HyperSpace and WarpDrive are the same damn things aren't they?

BTW: I'd choose "Space Folding" ... that way, people don't age while you travel faster than the speed of light... of course there is always the possibilty "Event Horizon" thing happening.

Ludicrous speed should be a valid response and not just the "results" choice!!

Hyperspace would be outside the laws of physics so there's no need to worry about aging and such. Warp speed actually warps the fabric of space/time and causes all kinds of trouble (as Star Trek fans can confirm.)

Babylon 5's use of hyperspace is my favorite.

Warp drive requires huge engines, but even the little fighters in Star Wars were capable of hyperspeed.

OTOH, enemy forces can't prevent you from warping away, whereas the Imperials had Interdictors that could disable all hyperspeed in a sphere of space.

I'd go with warp because it looks cooler.

"They've gone to plaid".

Edit: And I'd prefer holodeck technology over any hyperspace or warp speed technology. Can you imagine how fun it would be to play FPS or RPG games on a holodeck?

Hey you should add Space Folding

Isn't that basically what warping is?
Space Folding allows you to travel between greater distances without taking the time. Think about the dilemma of the Star Trek Voyager cast. If they had the technology of Space Folding, they would have been home in seconds, rather than years. They could warp, but not at anywhere near the speed they needed to match the speed of space folding.

Oh yeah, warping is widing a wave, while folding is, well, folding.

I remember now.

Folding is superior assuming you could eliminate the random possibility of winding up in Hell.

:)
