if another OS dominated, would there be more/same/less problems (virus)?

people like to make fun of msft when virus comes out like recent days. but if another OS dominated is there any reason to think problems would be different?

programmer once told me things would be the same, that every program (especially something as big as an OS) has holes, but it's just that everyone attacks windows since it's the major OS. true?

Linux has tons of holes from what I've heard especially since its open source. I'm sure we'd have the same problems with it as we do with MS. The nice thing is we wouldn't have to wait for an "official fix"...with open source stuff someone could find the problem very quickly.
