Is this an Android issue or a hardware/software issue? In the Engadget preview, the company says there is a patch coming that will give Market access, but also that they will talk to Google? So it seems to be an unknown.

does it come with any Google apps? I know there was a tussle between Cyanogen and Google about including Google Apps without.....the rest is what I don't know the whole story on.

I know that Google has to give their blessing on using Gapps

If you bothered to read my other posts or the stickied thread at the top of the forum, you'd realize I'm not an Apple fanboy and that you really need to lighten up.

How many Apple fanboys do you know that just installed Android on a WinMo HD2 today?

Hell, I want to buy one of the things to play with, I'd like to be able to use the app store though...

Google has been denying all Android tablets access to the marketplace. Why? No one really knows exactly yet.

That doesnt contribute to the thread.

In answer to the OP: when software is open and "free" its like free speech, not free beer.
Somebody had to fight and die for your free speech, cuz freedom isnt free.
Same situation with Android. Google doesnt have volunteers coming up with stuff for them. Those guys get paid, quite well in fact. They are good at what they do. If someone wants to invest millions of dollars in something that is basically free of cost and pretty much open to use, I dont see an issue with them adding teeny little restrictions here and there. Its a crapload better than Apple or Microsoft.

Like Linux it gives us a choice but that choice doesnt have to be perfect, just an acceptable alternative to the other guy.

I'd also be curious to know why they're doing it.

Android is free/open but google apps aren't (which includes the market).

They are most likely not allowing it on tablets until the form factor has better support. I'm going to guess that very few apps on the market have been tested on a tablet-sized device and Google doesn't want a couple early, cheap tablets to "poison the punchbowl".

Another issue that will turn up even after Google okays it is app designers and their requirements.

I had a Devour for about a month and a half and two issues with that were the non auto-focus camera, and a trackpad but no 5-way navigation or trackball. Many apps simply put "Camera" in their requirements and it didn't fit that requirement (there was an overly broad and now deprecated way of doing this I believe, it) instead of specific needs.

So if this thing doesn't have a camera, many apps won't even show. No GPS may blow some others away, no Phone communication, etc.

from what I read its an android thing with their requirements.

Samsung is rumored to announce their tablet next week. We'll see if they have marketplace access.

Maybe google can get away with denying no name chinese makers access, hide behind security and what not. It might be hard/be a big issue denying a much larger company like samsung.

Why do they deny devices like the Augen Gentouch from downloading apps?

I wonder if the Tablet supports "side loading" of apps. More of a hassle to install apps.. but if people "root" android based phones to load custom roms and non-market apps.. perhaps they could just do the same with the tablets.

that is an old photo that was posted by one of samsung's twitter account.

I'm guessing they probably loaded up the same firmware as the phone for testing purposes. If it has phone abilities it'll be stupid and I will not buy. I refuse to buy any tablet or any device that requires a data plan. I have a phone for that already.

tablet for me will replace my webpad for the couch and maybe take on plane and long car trips to watch movie and play games for the kiddies.

Seems it's official, Google has banished the Augen tablet from the marketplace.

So the open OS has a closed marketplace and apps?

And it's available online now...

The google apps and marketplace are closed and google claims they are proprietary. Augen reported bought them through an unlicensed vendor. Whether they were pirated or not it really doesn't matter.

They are being pulled. The tablets may be made but you won't see Marketplace on future builds.

you can read more about it here.

Thanks for link.... Perhaps apps will need to be sideloaded on the tablet... if that even possible.

Are there other methods to distribute apps to android users without using the market place?
