I watched Bill Maher, so I know what was said before and after this proposed question, which gives it a lot more sense. And actually, the results of this poll and comments in this thread fit exactly into the point he was making.

He was arguing that global warming (if exists, don't get into that debate) cannot be solved by individuals willingly changing their habits - it is such a large scale issue that it can only be handled by the government.

Simply put, if left up to individuals, most people would rather say f. it and pass the responsibility on to others.

Bingo!!! We have a winner!!!

He was simply illustrating how lazy THE WORLD is and how we have a need for this "right here right now culture" we live in.

Fixed.

Well let's see, you could apply that to the world, exactly right. But he was talking about America, so I figure in the context of which he was speaking I was staying on topic by mentioning how Americans are lazy and apathetic.:Q

Did you actually watch the episode?

I don't need to watch the episode to take issue with that statement. Americans are no worse than most of the world with regards to not taking action.

Many would, many wouldn't. People don't get the f'ing odviuous "smoking causes cancer, so don't", "don't drink and drive", and "pay attention to the road when you drive". Why would people stop using thier remote?

I would stop using my remote to prevent global warming. So I have to get up and change the channel whoopdee do.

are you kidding me?

Call me lazy or whatever, but I am not going to press the channel up button on my cable box 700 times to get from ABC to HBO-HD just to find out that I would rather watch what was on ABC. You guys can go to hell.

Well, the TV I use most often is my HTPC... I think I could live with using my mouse to navigate. 😉

There's your problem... it's inefficiency, not laziness. Next time try the channel down button..... that is unless you have 1400 channels.

Wow, people here obviously do not understand the context of the episode nor the discussion that was taking place at the time. Stop taking it so literally, the world is not black & white it's nuanced, deal with it, critical thinking people, practice it from time to time. I'm done with this thread, the episode explains itself if the resident blowhards can't get that through their heads then that's too bad. :frown:
