If AMD can retain just one business, CPU or GPU, which one will you prefer it to be?

I think it would be really nice if their x86 license could somehow find its way to Samsung. Not sure if that's possible, though - I don't think it transfers if they're bought out. 🙁

They need both. If one of their divisions goes out of business, we could see extremely high prices from Intel and NVIDIA respectively with little to no advancement as they are the only main competitors to AMD CPUs and GPUs. Unless someone else can take over their X86 code part of the business or GPU business to keep the competition alive and well.

Voted GPU, but I don't think it would be good for the consumer if AMD abandoned either of their projects.

Focusing on CPUs would leave NVIDIA with a monopoly on enthusiast level graphics, while focusing on GPUs would leave Intel with an absolute monopoly on x86 processors.

If a new desktop architecture weren't imminent I'd say the GPU division would be the clear favorite. But AMD brought in (and brought back) enough talent over the past year or so to work on next-gen x86 that I wouldn't want that talent to be lost.

Though you do have to wonder how much more competitive AMD would be against nVidia were they to throw all of their x86 R&D at GPU... Because the main worry is that, next-gen arch. or not, AMD doesn't currently have the resources to compete against Intel and nVidia simultaneously for long.
