Probably the pro-2A party that freed the slaves that doesn't think it is wrong to call a biological male a man.
You can't mix past and present in your answer. Besides that latest few CPACs attendees have extolled the virtues of slavery.

They hung people on the wrong side back then so I shouldn't want a Lincoln if I were you. Lincoln would have had a higher opinion of Jefferson Davis than the political mutant in the WH today.

I imagine he'd be quite blown away by how far we've come. Politics would probably be the last thing on his mind.

I believe this question assumes that Lincoln has already gotten past his initial future shock. :p

I really don't know why I bother contributing to threads like this. "Abe Lincoln would renounce the party he founded and become a democrat" says a democrat 170 years later. Contemporary democrats cheer. Really stupid. Can't people start more threads bashing Trump or something?

Since Republicans still claim to the the "Party of Lincoln" why is this thread irrelevant?

I wish they'd make a movie about his earlier years. Americans should know ol Abe could throw down like Jackson, but had the class and humility of Obama. His wrestling background and record of feats of strength have always been fascinating to me.

From SI article

The rugged frontiersman once beat a man with a single toss and challenged the mob that had gathered with a shout: "Any of you want to try it, come on and whet your horns!"
No one stepped forward.

Historians can find only one recorded defeat of Lincoln in 12 years, a regimental championship match against Hank Thompson while serving with the Illinois Volunteers during the Black Hawk Indian uprising of 1832.

It's the 19th century equivalent of "FITE ME!" It does sound like he was a pretty well-rounded individual.

Can you even imagine a world where Ben Franklin didn't exist? That blows my mind.

I think old Abe would run for president.
And the republicans would call him a socialist, a loser because he was shot, and anti border security because we all know old Abe would not want THAT WALL.
Abe would run against Trump, and Trump would make fun of Abe's hat, of his beard, call his wife old and fat and fashion illiterate, and call old Abe just another typical liberal lawyer.
It wouldn't be pretty.
I can't see Fox News cuddling up to someone that abolished slavery, that supports equal rights, and believes in the little man.
If republicans can demonize Bernie Sanders, they damn well could AND WOULD demonize Abe Lincoln.
Abe Lincoln.... in the flesh.

Where's the poll man?

He probably wouldn't join the Republican party I'm undecided as to whether or not he'd join the Democratic party or try to start a new one.

This was a man whose origins are so counter to Bush, Romney, Trump and others that he would've embraced Class Struggle, and registered as a Democrat or progressive.

Myths may often be partly or even entirely true. Lincoln had a reputation for honesty. With all of his other virtues, he would've taken one look at Trump and joined the opposition.

I thought I was going to have an aneurism or a stroke when I heard Trump try to compare himself to Lincoln. Maybe Lincoln would not have said so, but Thaddeus Stevens was quoted as using a line like this, which maybe Lincoln would apply to Trump:

"You are such a low reptile that I couldn't crush you with my boot!"

He'd probably have PTSD from having been shot dead. That's got to give you nightmares.

Either way he'd be very disorientated. Would take quite a while for him to adjust and get up to speed on social and political history. How do you explain Putin to someone who pre-dated Lenin? Charlottesville to someone who never heard of Hitler?

Republicans would probably 'swiftboat' him.
