I just could not picture a presidential candidate getting away with smoking these days. What do you think?

Haha. Reminded me of an old joke:

It is time to elect the world leader, and your vote counts. Here's the
facts about the three leading candidates.

--Candidate A - Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with
astrologists. He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8
to 10 martinis a day.

--Candidate B - He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon,
used opium in college and drinks a quart of whiskey every evening.

--Candidate C - He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't
smoke, drinks an occasional beer and hasn't had any extra-marital affairs.

Which of these candidates would be your choice?

I'll go with A or B. They sound like real men.

Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR)

Candidate B is Winston Churchill

With the current demonizing of tobacco by just about everyone but thoes who use it, I don't think it would fly.

well-deserved man. My mom will always have a cough due to second-hand smoke. Besides, I'm certain that poorer people smoke a lot more than richer people, and as we all know sucessful politicians are always rich. Sorta like diet.

First thing I thought of. He could juse use the "I don't inhale" line.

"But Sir, we have you on video tape hitting a few lines of cocaine"

Then just pull the Eddie Murphy line - "Wudn't me"

I don't want to get into a typical smoking argument that happens on this forum, but your mother's cough would be near impossible to link to second hand smoke.

Clinton was a cigar smoker, everyone seemed to love him.

Good evidence that those who are too rigid and conform to cultural standards too closely are the real freaks. :)

An extra-marital affair? He didn't marry Eva Braun until shortly before they died. Did he have a previous wife?

Hitler had a mistress, but was only married a day or two before killing himself so he really had no time to cheat on her.

A cigar might work - just makes you look tough...
