If 7-11 is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, why are there locks on the doors?

Why is stuff on a ship called cargo, and stuff on a truck called a shipment?

Serving customers 24 hours a day is one of the cornerstones of 7-Eleven?s business. Ironically, 7-Eleven got its name because the stores were open from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m., which was considered to be "extended hours" back in the mid- 1900s. Most competitors followed our lead, opening and closing at the same times 7-Eleven stores did. By the early ?60s, lifestyles and demographics were changing in the United States. The average age of the U. S. population was becoming younger, and people were much busier. They needed products and services at all hours.

7-Eleven's move to stay open 24 hours started in 1962, at a store in Austin, Texas, and it happened almost by accident. The store was located very close to the university campus. One Saturday night after a football game, the store was so busy that it never closed. Eventually, the manager opened the store 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and it was quite successful. Soon afterwards, 7-Eleven opened 24-hour stores in Dallas, Fort Worth and Las Vegas, and those hours were adopted companywide. Today, most 7-Eleven stores around the world operate 24 hours a day.

7-Eleven's simple act of opening stores around the clock was a pioneering move in the retail arena. Thousands of competitors -- as well as other retail operations, grocery stores, drug and even fitness centers -- have followed 7-Eleven?s lead, a trend that has changed the way Americans live and shop.

The name 7-Eleven originated in 1946 when the stores were open from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. Today, offering customers 24-hour convenience, seven days a week is the cornerstone of 7-Eleven's business.

Haha. I guess it would be against the company charter to be open 366 days in a year. :p

Is 7-11 a franchise or a corporation? If it's a franchise, then not every single one will be open 24/7/365

Franchise, that's why some stores close down.

Amol you need to move from wherever you are.

When you find yourself making the assumption that how things work near you is how they work elsewhere, you need to get out of there.

And get your head out of your ass.

If the store is held up (robbed) it must be closed
until the police and management get there.
Company policy. So easy.

It's a CIA conspiracy. Probably involves Aliens, Area 51, and a coup in a third world country, too.

Quit finding the random stupid question pages. The answers are a few inches below it, LOOK.

Most of the reasons are listed there already. The two that haven't been are these.

1. They bought the building and it already had locks.
2. Locks are needed if they ever want to sell the building.

I know a few 711s that aren't open 24 hours let alone 365 days a year. Summarily I'd assume that they are a safety issue, I know alot of late hour stores buzz the people in after a certain time of night.

Edit: I was going to say franchise too, but since I wasn't sure I left it out. However since the guys above me have confirmed it... it's a franchise and are independantly operated.
